BI 320: Animal BehaviorAnimal Behavior examines all aspects of animal behavior, mostly from a behavioral ecology perspective; that is, we try to understand the evolutionary significance (fitness benefits) of various behaviors in the ecological contexts of the animals. Labs involve a variety of hypothesis tests using both captive animals indoors and wild animals in the field.

BI 314: Ornithology &
|
Ornithology examines all aspects of bird biology. Many labs involve local field trips to see and identify birds, but some labs are conducted indoors and involve examinations of principles of flight and bird dissection. We typically have a bird-identification contest at the end of the semester as well. Zoology covers all the major animal phyla, with an emphasis on the diversity of forms and the evolutionary history of the groups. Labs involve identification of important representatives of the phyla, and several dissections.
